Association between perceived relative harm of electronic cigarettes versus cigarettes on nicotine or tobacco use patterns in young adults: findings from the PATH study.
When young adults believed e-cigarettes were as harmful as regular cigarettes, some quit nicotine products altogether, but others switched to combustible cigarettes or alternative tobacco products. This suggests that simply warning people about e-cigarette risks may not reduce overall tobacco use and could unintentionally push users toward more harmful alternatives.
