An evaluation of anxiety and depressive symptoms in terms of smoking among Black adults.
This study examined 498 Black daily smokers and found that anxiety and depression together—and sometimes independently—influence various smoking behaviors including difficulty quitting, dependence severity, and expectations about withdrawal symptoms. The combination of these two mental health conditions appears particularly important in understanding why some smokers struggle to quit.
